SPACEMEN comicbook

Waiting for the rendering to end... :)

Thinking about the comicbook, it turns out it's going to be cheap enough to do so that a floppy as well as a graphic novel is conceivable. I think... Both. In keeping with the Silver Age vibe, although there were a tiny handful of graphic novels in all but name through the Silver Age the concept hadn't actually caught on at that point, so we'll do a regular movie adaptation issue and an Annual, with the Annual being the graphic novel.

I think the storyboards etc. of some of the expanded universe stuff that builds on the original film should be done in a variety of styles in the Annual and the floppy should just be a true Silver Age comic, racing through the story with art bursting from every panel. Just have to find the right guy or lady for the project as artist. :)

SPACEMEN pictures (from the rough cut)

SPACEMEN pictures (from the rough cut)

SPACEMEN takes place in an alternate (but pretty similar) 1967 AD, where public space technology is a little more advanced. Doctor Curtis Temple, his assistant and lover Lee Mason and his offsider Alan Mollay are called in to investigate a strange coordinated landing of "meteors" in Cornwall, UK.

It soon proves to be nothing less than the vanguard of an alien invasion!

The aliens unleash horrors on the local population whilst Dr. Temple does his best to fight them as a one-man scientific army, until he finally enlists the aid of some allies and tries to turn the tide of battle against the alien invaders...

SPACEMEN

Spacemen is my new animated film, and will be the best attempt yet since I swapped to animation. I am comfortable now with the movement between Blender, GiMP, Milkshape, iClone, Movies etc. and it is getting easier to incorporate raw animation into clips and editing suites like Adobe Premiere than when I started, since it was total freaking nightmare when I started. :)

The basic story once again uses public domain audio, this time from THEY CAME FROM BEYOND SPACE, but the visuals are independent of that film and are much more in keeping with for example Silver Age Marvel which I still love. I learned to read using Marvel comics when I was 1 and a half years old so Marvel has been with me literally my whole life.

This film will use comicbook panels as its opening and closing credits, then the 3D animation as its normal footage. The 3D footage will be quite heavily processed in some cases to cater to the demands of the script but for some of the action it will be very much like a Silver Age comic- dogpile hand to hand combat, inexplicable machines, bizarre alien technology and sinister aliens being creepy.

This one definitely needs as much of a sense of spectacle as it is possible to achieve with the budget and resources I currently have but it is a very enjoyable creative process so based on the simple storyboard pictures you can see here it is obvious I am having a blast. :)
